I had my first interview yesterday for a position I just applied to last week. It’s for the VISTA Team Leader position for the Appalachian Coal Country Team. Double excitement for me there, my first interview for post-PeaceJam, and for a position I’m really excited about.
I applied after reading a couple AmeriCorps St. Louis applications where the applicant worked with Appalachian communities. Coal has always been an issue I’ve felt strongly about, and who doesn’t love the Appalachian Mountains? So I went on Idealist, searched in West Virginia and found this.
The interview has also really made me realize how much I’ve valued my VISTA team in my AmeriCorps experience. They literally kept me from quitting because I just HAD to see them again at training. Even when my site was terrible and made me miserable, I could always say that I worked on the most amazing team ever.
So needless to say, I’m excited about applying and interviewing for this position. It is my first interview, so I’m not really expecting to get it, and I’d really be sad to leave St. Louis, but it also feels nice to be excited about a new prospect. And you never know, I could actually get it!
